How to treat eye spasms
Disease description:
I don't know why, but my eyelid has been twitching frequently the past couple of days. I went to the hospital and the doctor said it's eye muscle spasm, which isn't very serious. I'd like to ask, how is eye muscle spasm treated?
Treatment for eye spasms may include the following methods:
1. Heat application and relaxation: For eye spasms caused by eye strain, apply a warm, moist towel at 40–45°C to the affected area. Each session should last 15–20 minutes, repeated several times daily, to relieve eye discomfort. Additionally, perform facial muscle relaxation exercises, such as massaging around the eyes and practicing eye-opening movements, to strengthen and improve endurance of the orbicularis oculi muscle.
2. Medication: Under medical supervision, anticonvulsant medications such as phenytoin tablets or carbamazepine tablets may be prescribed to suppress abnormal neuronal discharges and control spasms. Furthermore, neurotrophic agents like oryzanol, vitamin B1, and vitamin B12 can help reduce mental stress and alleviate symptoms of eye muscle spasms.
3. Acupuncture: For persistent or frequent eyelid twitching, acupuncture therapy can help relieve spasms by stimulating the nervous and circulatory systems.
