What causes gum inflammation?
Disease description:
I've been experiencing gum bleeding and slight swelling and pain when brushing my teeth recently. I think I might have inflamed gums. What causes gum inflammation?
Gingivitis, or inflammation of the gums, can arise from various causes. 1. Poor oral hygiene is the primary contributing factor; when oral cleaning is inadequate, bacteria easily proliferate and cause infections, leading to plaque or tartar buildup that irritates the gums and triggers inflammation. 2. Unhealthy lifestyle habits—such as frequently consuming spicy or irritating foods, sweets, smoking, and drinking alcohol—can also irritate gum tissue, inducing or worsening gingivitis. 3. Other factors, including misaligned or crowded teeth, mouth breathing, and endocrine disorders, may also contribute to gum inflammation. To prevent and treat gingivitis, it is essential to maintain good oral hygiene, avoid unhealthy lifestyle habits, have regular dental check-ups, and seek timely treatment when necessary.
