How to treat epididymitis
Disease description:
Yesterday, I suddenly experienced discomfort in my testicle. After going to the hospital, I was diagnosed with epididymitis. I would like to know how epididymitis is treated. Could you please explain the treatment options for epididymitis?

The treatment of epididymitis mainly includes the following:
1. General management: Patients should rest in bed and avoid strenuous physical activity. The scrotum should be supported to relieve pain. In the early stage of the disease, cold compresses can be applied to prevent worsening swelling; after 24 hours, switch to warm compresses to promote blood circulation and resolution of inflammation.
2. Medication: For epididymitis caused by bacterial infection, antibiotics are the primary treatment, such as broad-spectrum antibiotics including tetracycline and chloramphenicol. Additionally, antipyretic and analgesic drugs like ibuprofen may be used to alleviate pain and fever.
3. Surgical treatment: In severe cases with abscess formation or recurrent episodes, surgical intervention such as incision and drainage, or epididymectomy/orchiectomy, may be necessary.
During treatment, patients should follow their doctor's advice, maintain good personal hygiene, and avoid sexual activity to facilitate recovery.
