What bone density value indicates osteoporosis?
Disease description:
Recently, I have been experiencing body aches all over and suspect it might be caused by osteoporosis. I would like to have a bone density test. What bone density value indicates osteoporosis?
For the condition of generalized body aches, although osteoporosis may be one cause, it is not the only cause.
1. Relationship between bone density and osteoporosis:
Normal bone density range: Generally, the normal bone density value falls between -1.0 and -1.5 g/cm³ (or a T-score between -1 and 1).
Diagnostic criteria for osteoporosis: When the bone density value is below -2.5 g/cm³ (or a T-score below -2.5), combined with clinical symptoms and possible fragility fractures, osteoporosis can be diagnosed.
2. Possible causes of generalized body aches:
In addition to osteoporosis, generalized body aches may also be caused by overexertion, inflammatory diseases, viral infections, fatigue and stress, medication side effects, and various other factors.
It is recommended that when experiencing generalized body aches, you should seek medical attention promptly and undergo a comprehensive examination to achieve an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
