How to treat tendonitis in the leg
Disease description:
I have been experiencing leg pain frequently during exercise these days, and later found out that it was caused by leg tendonitis. How is leg tendonitis treated?
Treatment for leg tendonitis mainly includes the following aspects:
1. Physical therapy:
After the acute phase, heat and cold compresses can be alternated. Ice the affected area for 20 minutes every few hours to reduce inflammatory response.
Magnetotherapy or shock wave therapy may further relieve pain and muscle tension.
For tendonitis of the upper extremity, splints or plaster casts can be used to immobilize the affected area in an appropriate functional position; elastic bandages can be used for other locations to reduce swelling.
2. Pharmacological treatment:
Take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as Nimesulide or Ibuprofen, orally as directed by a physician to control inflammation and relieve pain.
Topical medications, such as Diclofenac Sodium gel, can be applied for tendonitis located more superficially.
3. Joint protection measures:
Reduce weight-bearing activities such as climbing or deep squats to decrease stress on the legs.
If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention promptly to obtain diagnosis and treatment recommendations from a specialist.
