How to treat neck and shoulder pain
Disease description:
I have been driving for long hours every day and recently developed neck and shoulder pain. How should neck and shoulder pain be treated?
For the treatment of shoulder and neck pain, the following methods can be used:
1. Rest and posture adjustment: Ensure adequate rest and avoid maintaining the same posture for prolonged periods, especially activities involving lowering the head or twisting the neck.
2. Physical therapy: Includes heat application, cold compresses, traction, and physical treatments. Heat application helps relieve muscle tension, while cold compresses can reduce inflammation and swelling; traction can relieve pressure on the nerve roots; physical treatments such as ultrasound and ultraviolet light also have certain therapeutic effects.
3. Medication: For patients experiencing severe pain, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as celecoxib and etoricoxib, may be used under medical supervision. Additionally, nerve-nourishing medications such as mecobalamin can be taken orally to alleviate symptoms of numbness in the upper limbs.
4. Surgical treatment: Patients with nerve root-type cervical spondylosis or spinal cord-type cervical spondylosis who do not respond to conservative treatment may require surgical intervention.
