What to do about a cervical disc herniation
When suffering from cervical disc herniation, one may experience neck pain and numbness in the arms. What should be done?

Cervical disc herniation is a common spinal condition, mainly characterized by neck pain, arm numbness, and weakened muscle strength. Its treatment generally includes the following options:
1. Conservative treatment: For mild to moderate cervical disc herniation, non-surgical treatment is recommended. This includes rest, physical therapy, hot or cold compresses, traction, massage, acupuncture, and taking anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medications.
2. Medication: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen capsules and naproxen tablets, can help relieve pain and inflammation.
3. Minimally invasive surgery: If conservative treatments are ineffective or if the condition severely impacts quality of life, minimally invasive surgery may be considered. For example, discectomy can remove part or all of the herniated disc through a small incision to relieve pressure on the nerve roots.
4. Open surgery: In severe cases, open surgical procedures such as anterior cervical decompression or fusion may be required.
Of course, preventing cervical disc herniation is also very important. It is recommended to maintain healthy lifestyle habits, avoid prolonged periods of neck flexion or working at a desk, keep the neck warm, and perform appropriate neck exercises.
