Gastrointestinal bleeding and gastric ulcers are not the same disease, but there is a certain relationship between them. Gastrointestinal bleeding, also known as upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, can be caused by various factors, such as gastric ulcers, gastritis, and cirrhosis. A gastric ulcer is a specific disease, and one of its most serious complications is gastrointestinal bleeding. Therefore, gastric ulcers can potentially cause gastrointestinal bleeding, but gastrointestinal bleeding does not necessarily indicate a gastric ulcer. Typical symptoms of gastric ulcers include upper abdominal pain, indigestion, and bleeding. When a gastric ulcer progresses to a certain extent, it may erode blood vessels and lead to gastrointestinal bleeding. Apart from gastric ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding may also be caused by other conditions, such as acute gastric mucosal injury or rupture of esophageal and gastric varices.
