Dr. Qi Zhirong
Immature teratoma is a germ cell tumor with malignant potential, primarily characterized by the presence of both mature tridermal tissues and a significant amount of immature tissue within its histological components. This immaturity endows the teratoma with the potential for recurrence and metastasis. Common immature components found in immature teratomas are usually neuroepithelial tissues; however, the specific impact of the type and degree of neural differentiation on prognosis has not yet been clearly established. Treatment of immature teratomas typically includes surgical resection and chemotherapy. Surgical removal is the primary treatment method, involving complete excision of the tumor and surrounding tissues. For larger tumors or those that have already spread, partial or complete removal of the ovary and uterus may be necessary. Chemotherapy serves as an adjuvant therapy to eliminate microscopic residual disease and reduce the risk of tumor recurrence.
