What are the symptoms of sepsis?
Disease description:
I have been experiencing frequent nosebleeds recently, and the situation has become more severe in the past few days, which has made me somewhat frightened. What are the symptoms of sepsis?
Sepsis is an acute systemic infection caused by the persistent presence of pathogenic microorganisms or their toxic products in the blood. Its main symptoms include:
1. Bacteremia symptoms: frequently manifested as chills and high fever, with temperature typically showing remittent or intermittent fever patterns; in a few cases, it may present as continuous or irregular fever. Patients may also experience general malaise, headache, muscle and joint pain, and weakness.
2. Skin rash: petechiae are commonly seen, distributed on the trunk, limbs, oral mucosa, and conjunctiva of the eyes.
3. Joint involvement: redness, swelling, pain, and restricted movement in large joints such as the knee joint.
4. Hepatosplenomegaly: usually mild enlargement; however, the liver may become significantly enlarged and tender when complicated with toxic hepatitis or liver abscess.
5. Others: severe cases may develop serious complications such as toxic encephalopathy, toxic myocarditis, intestinal paralysis, and septic shock.
If suspected, immediate medical consultation and treatment are recommended.
