The early symptoms of sepsis mainly include:
1. Fever: This is the main and most common symptom, often presenting as remittent or intermittent fever. High fever may be accompanied by chills.
2. General malaise: Headache, muscle and joint pain, weakness, rapid pulse, and tachypnea.
3. Gastrointestinal symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
4. Rash: Petechiae are commonly found on the trunk, limbs, conjunctiva, and oral mucosa. The number of lesions is usually limited; urticaria or pustular rashes may also occur.
5. Joint symptoms: Some patients with Gram-positive cocci sepsis may develop joint redness, swelling, pain, and restricted movement.
6. Hepatosplenomegaly: Mild enlargement is common in patients with toxic hepatitis or liver abscess.
