The early symptoms of sepsis mainly include: 1. Fever: This is the main and most common symptom, often presenting as remittent or intermittent fever. High fever may be accompanied by chills. 2. General malaise: Headache, muscle and joint pain, weakness, rapid pulse, and tachypnea. 3. Gastrointestinal symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. 4. Rash: Petechiae are commonly found on the trunk, limbs, conjunctiva, and oral mucosa. The number of lesions is usually limited; urticaria or pustular rashes may also occur. 5. Joint symptoms: Some patients with Gram-positive cocci sepsis may develop joint redness, swelling, pain, and restricted movement. 6. Hepatosplenomegaly: Mild enlargement is common in patients with toxic hepatitis or liver abscess.
