Survival Rate of Childhood Acute Leukemia
Disease description:
Our child has been diagnosed with acute leukemia. Raising this child has been particularly challenging for our family, as we took significant health risks in order to have him/her. Could you please tell us the survival rate for children with acute leukemia?
The survival rate of childhood acute leukemia is related to multiple factors:
1. Disease type: Childhood acute leukemia mainly includes acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In ALL, the survival rate can exceed 90% in the low-risk group, approximately 80% in the intermediate-risk group, and around 70% in the high-risk group. In AML, acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) has the best treatment outcomes, with survival rates exceeding 90%, while other subtypes are around 50%-60%.
2. Treatment regimen: With continuous advancements in treatment methods, such as multi-drug combination intensive therapy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and bone marrow transplantation, the survival rate of childhood acute leukemia has significantly improved.
3. Individual factors: The survival rate is also influenced by factors such as the patient's age, physical condition, and whether they actively cooperate with treatment.
