How is acute leukemia caused?
I used to only know that leukemia is difficult to treat, but now I know that leukemia also has different types, such as acute leukemia. I'd like to ask the doctor, what causes acute leukemia?
The causes of acute leukemia are complex and varied, mainly including the following aspects:
1. Genetic factors: Individuals with a family history of leukemia may have a higher probability of developing the disease. Consanguineous marriage may also increase the risk of acute leukemia.
2. Environmental factors: Long-term exposure to ionizing radiation, such as X-rays and gamma rays, can cause bone marrow damage and immune system dysfunction, thereby inducing acute leukemia.
3. Biological factors: Certain viruses, such as human T-cell leukemia/lymphoma virus (HTLV-1), can cause T-cell leukemia in humans.
4. Chemical factors: The use of certain anti-cancer drugs, alkylating agents, or topoisomerase II inhibitors may increase the risk of developing leukemia.
