Disease description:

My son came home from school today and took a bath. His father noticed many small pimples while scrubbing his back. I suspect it might be a reaction from mite bites. Could you please tell me what symptoms may occur after being bitten by mites?

The symptoms of mite bites can vary and differ among individuals. Generally, after being bitten by mites, patients often experience skin itching, particularly severe at night, accompanied by significant redness and swelling. Skin lesions such as red papules, papulovesicles, and vesicles may appear. In severe cases, a bite-related bruise might be observed at the center of the lesion. Additionally, mite bites can cause rough skin, which results from mites disrupting the internal environment of hair follicles and sebaceous glands, leading to follicular dilation, nutritional deficiency, and subsequent stimulation of keratinocyte proliferation. More seriously, in individuals with sensitive constitutions or weakened immune systems, mite bites may trigger systemic reactions such as fever, fatigue, and headache, and may even induce severe symptoms like asthma or proteinuria. If related symptoms occur, prompt medical attention is recommended.
