Symptoms and Treatment of Cataracts
Disease description:
I get tired very easily and have experienced a decline in my vision. I'm not sure if it's cataracts.
Cataract is a common eye disease in which the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to vision loss. The main symptoms include:
1. Progressive blurred vision: Initially, vision may just seem less clear than before. As the condition progresses, vision gradually deteriorates.
2. Reduced color perception: Patients with cataracts may find colors less vivid, especially experiencing a decreased ability to distinguish between blue and yellow.
3. Decreased contrast sensitivity: Objects appear with less contrast, making it difficult to distinguish them.
4. Monocular multiple images or double vision: In some cases, a single object may appear as two images.
The primary treatment for cataracts is surgical intervention, commonly performed using "phacoemulsification" combined with "intraocular lens implantation." During the procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision to access the eye, uses ultrasound waves to emulsify and remove the cloudy lens, and then implants a clear artificial intraocular lens to restore vision.
