Dr. Li Jingxiang
Kaisailu is a commonly used medication for relieving constipation, with glycerin as its main ingredient. Although it is effective during use, it may also be accompanied by some side effects. Common adverse effects include abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, and diarrhea; some patients may experience a burning sensation or irritation. Long-term and frequent use of Kaisailu may lead to bowel dependence, impair normal defecation function, and potentially worsen constipation. In rare cases, excessive use of Kaisailu may cause electrolyte imbalance; therefore, elderly individuals and patients with underlying medical conditions should use it cautiously. Local reactions may also occur, including rectal irritation and allergic responses. To reduce the risk of side effects, instructions provided in the package insert or advice from a physician should be followed when using Kaisailu; overdose should be avoided. In daily management, it is recommended to improve constipation through dietary adjustments, increased fiber intake, adequate hydration, and appropriate physical activity. If constipation persists or associated symptoms occur, timely medical consultation is advised.
