Dr. Xu Shuai
To determine if you may have periarthritis of the shoulder, pay attention to the following points: 1. Pain: A persistent dull ache around the shoulder joint, especially worsening at night and when attempting to move or rotate the shoulder. The pain may radiate down the upper arm. 2. Limited mobility: There is a significant reduction in both active and passive range of motion of the shoulder joint, particularly in abduction, elevation, and rotational movements. You may find it difficult to perform daily activities such as combing your hair or dressing yourself. 3. Chronic progression: Symptoms typically develop gradually. Initially, there may be only mild discomfort, but over time, the pain worsens and is accompanied by joint stiffness. 4. No obvious cause: Periarthritis of the shoulder often occurs without a history of significant trauma and is associated with overuse or chronic conditions such as diabetes and thyroid disorders. 5. Imaging tests: Although X-rays may appear normal, MRI or ultrasound can help confirm soft tissue inflammation or swelling. If you experience the above symptoms, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
