I've always heard that drinking chrysanthemum tea is beneficial and can help prevent cancer, but I'm not clear on what the contraindications are. I'd like to ask the doctor: what are the contraindications of chrysanthemum tea?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. He Haochen
Chrysanthemum tea has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, moistening the lungs, and relieving cough. However, it also has certain contraindications. Chrysanthemum tea is cold in nature and may trigger or worsen symptoms such as diarrhea and stomach coldness if consumed excessively by individuals with deficiency-cold in the spleen and stomach or those with a generally cold constitution. Women during menstruation or the postpartum period may experience increased menstrual flow or abdominal discomfort due to bodily imbalance of yin and yang. Additionally, chrysanthemum tea contains certain phytoestrogens; therefore, individuals with hormone-dependent diseases (such as breast hyperplasia, breast cancer, etc.) should consume it with caution. Those with allergic constitutions, especially individuals with a history of allergy to chrysanthemum or related plants, may experience allergic reactions such as rashes or itching after consuming chrysanthemum tea. If discomfort occurs after drinking chrysanthemum tea, consumption should be stopped immediately and medical advice should be sought. Individuals with special health conditions or those currently taking other medications should consult a physician or nutritionist before consumption. In daily care, maintaining a balanced diet and avoiding excessive intake of cold-natured foods can help promote overall health.
