Can people with high uric acid levels drink coconut water?
Disease description:
My father has always liked drinking coconut water. Now that he has been found to have high uric acid levels, he hasn't been drinking it much. I would like to ask, can someone with high uric acid still drink coconut water?
Patients with high uric acid levels can drink coconut water in moderation. Coconut water contains low levels of purines and generally does not significantly increase uric acid levels. Additionally, it is rich in potassium, which has a diuretic effect and helps in the excretion of uric acid. Moreover, coconut water contains various nutrients such as vitamin C, magnesium, and protein, which are beneficial to overall health. Patients with high uric acid levels should avoid excessive consumption of coconut water, as its high sugar content may increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, cause indigestion, and be detrimental to blood sugar control. It is recommended that patients with high uric acid levels consume no more than 260ml (approximately one cup) of coconut water daily, along with other dietary and lifestyle modifications to manage uric acid levels.
