Can I drink lamb soup if I have high uric acid levels?
Disease description:
When I feel cold, I used to buy lamb and make lamb soup. However, I recently found out that I have high uric acid levels. I would like to know whether people with high uric acid can consume lamb soup.
Patients with high uric acid levels are not advised to consume mutton soup, mainly for the following reasons:
1. **High purine content**: Mutton itself is a high-purine food, and during the cooking process, purines from the meat dissolve into the soup, significantly increasing the purine content of the mutton soup. Consuming high-purine foods can directly elevate uric acid levels in patients with hyperuricemia, which is detrimental to disease management.
2. **Fat and cholesterol content**: During cooking, fat and cholesterol from the mutton also dissolve into the soup. These components are similarly harmful to individuals with elevated uric acid levels. Particularly, patients with high uric acid often have hyperlipidemia, and excessive intake of fat and cholesterol can worsen lipid abnormalities, increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
3. **Worsening of symptoms**: For individuals already suffering from hyperuricemia or gout, excessive consumption of mutton soup may trigger or exacerbate symptoms such as joint pain and swelling, thereby affecting quality of life.
