Can people with high uric acid levels take deep-sea fish oil?
Disease description:
I usually take deep-sea fish oil, which is good for the body. However, I currently have high uric acid levels and would like to know, is it okay to take deep-sea fish oil with high uric acid?
Patients with high uric acid levels can consume deep-sea fish oil, but should do so in moderation. Deep-sea fish oil is a health supplement extracted from deep-sea fish such as salmon and sardines. Its main components are unsaturated fatty acids, such as EPA and DHA, which offer various health benefits including nourishing nerves and enhancing immunity. Importantly, deep-sea fish oil has a relatively low purine content and contains almost no nucleic acid components, so it does not produce uric acid during metabolism in the body nor does it affect the excretion of uric acid. According to publicly available information, the purine content of deep-sea fish oil is approximately 75–100 mg per 100 grams, which is at a low level. Therefore, moderate consumption of deep-sea fish oil will not have adverse effects on patients with high uric acid levels. Nevertheless, patients with elevated uric acid should still pay attention to controlling their overall purine intake and avoid consuming excessive amounts of high-purine foods, such as animal offal and seafood. If there are any concerns or discomfort, it is advisable to seek timely medical attention and consult a healthcare professional.
