Can people with high uric acid levels eat yacon?
Disease description:
In summer, I like to eat yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) because it's cool and refreshing. However, I currently have high uric acid levels and would like to know if it's safe for me to consume yacon.

People with high uric acid levels can consume yacon, but should do so in moderation. Yacon is a low-purine food, containing approximately 25 mg of purines per 100 grams, which is significantly below the threshold for high-purine foods. Therefore, moderate consumption generally does not cause a significant increase in uric acid levels. Additionally, yacon is rich in water, dietary fiber, vitamin A, amino acids, calcium, and other nutrients, which can promote metabolism, aid in the excretion of uric acid from the body, and provide essential nutrients to enhance immunity. However, individuals with high uric acid levels should still control their intake to avoid excessive consumption that may lead to discomforts such as bloating and diarrhea. People with cold deficiency in the spleen and stomach, diarrhea, or an allergy to yacon should also consume it cautiously. In terms of diet, individuals with high uric acid levels should also avoid high-purine foods such as seafood, beef, and pork liver, in order to maintain normal uric acid levels and protect their health.
