Disease description:

During this weight loss period, I have been eating coix seed (Job's tears). However, my recent physical examination revealed that my uric acid levels are relatively high. I'm concerned about potential health effects and would like to ask: is it okay for someone with high uric acid to eat coix seed?

Patients with high uric acid levels can consume coix seed (Job's tears). Coix seed is a low-purine food, with a purine content much lower than the threshold for high-purine foods. Therefore, moderate consumption of coix seed by patients with high uric acid levels will not significantly increase their uric acid levels and can instead be considered a healthy dietary choice. Additionally, coix seed has certain medicinal benefits, such as reducing edema, promoting urination, strengthening the spleen, and removing dampness, which can help facilitate the excretion of urine and, to some extent, aid in the elimination of uric acid. However, it should be noted that patients with high uric acid levels still need to maintain overall dietary control, avoid excessive intake of high-purine foods such as organ meats and seafood, and maintain a balanced diet with moderate consumption of low-purine foods, such as fresh vegetables and fruits, to help stabilize uric acid levels.
