Can people with high uric acid levels eat broccoli?
Disease description:
I have been working out recently and have been eating more broccoli as part of my regular diet. During a recent physical examination, I was found to have high uric acid levels, and I'm concerned about potential health effects. I would like to ask, is it okay for someone with high uric acid to eat broccoli?
Patients with high uric acid levels can eat broccoli. Broccoli is not a high-purine food; its purine content is relatively low, classifying it as a low-to-moderate purine food. For patients with hyperuricemia, the main dietary focus should be on reducing intake of high-purine foods, such as animal organs, seafood, and certain meats (mainly pork, beef, and lamb). As a low-purine food, broccoli can be consumed in moderation. It does not significantly affect uric acid levels and also provides abundant nutrients, including protein, dietary fiber, vitamin C, and beta-carotene, which help maintain overall health. Therefore, patients with high uric acid can safely consume broccoli, but they should still control total purine intake and maintain a balanced diet.
