I always experience dysmenorrhea during my menstrual period. What foods should I avoid eating when I have dysmenorrhea?
During dysmenorrhea, certain foods may worsen symptoms and should be avoided or consumed in limited amounts:
1. Spicy foods: Such as coffee, tea, chocolate, and spicy dishes. These foods may intensify uterine contractions and increase pain.
2. Cold beverages and cooling foods: Excessively cold foods and drinks may cause constriction of blood vessels in the uterus, triggering or worsening menstrual pain. Examples include ice cream, cold drinks, and raw cold fruits.
3. Alcohol and caffeinated beverages: Alcohol and caffeine may exacerbate dysmenorrhea as they promote the production of prostaglandins, substances that induce uterine contractions.
4. High-fat foods: Fried and high-fat foods may cause an inflammatory response, further increasing pain.
5. Dairy products: Some individuals may be sensitive to lactose in dairy products, which might worsen menstrual pain after consumption.
