Can I eat mung beans if I have high uric acid?
Disease description:
Every summer, I enjoy eating mung bean cakes as they help to relieve the heat. However, I now have a high uric acid level and would like to know if people with high uric acid can consume mung beans.
Patients with high uric acid levels can consume mung beans in moderation. As a legume, mung beans have a relatively high overall purine content; however, they are still considered to have a medium-to-low purine level among legumes. Moreover, when mung beans are cooked, such as in the preparation of mung bean soup or porridge, their purine content is further reduced. Eating mung beans in moderation will not significantly increase uric acid levels and can provide rich nutrients, including dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, which are beneficial to overall health. Nevertheless, patients with high uric acid should still control their intake and avoid excessive consumption that may lead to elevated uric acid levels. Additionally, it is recommended that patients choose cooking methods such as boiling into soup or making porridge, and avoid frying or adding high-purine ingredients such as excessive meat, in order to further reduce the purine content of the food.
