Disease description:

My friend recently experienced chest pain and was diagnosed with pneumothorax after an examination. I would like to ask whether this condition could result in any sequelae?

Pneumothorax may result in sequelae. The severity and type of sequelae depend on whether treatment was timely, the treatment method used, and the individual patient's condition. When pneumothorax is treated promptly and appropriately, sequelae are usually minimal. However, some patients who receive improper treatment or have severe conditions may experience complications such as breathing difficulties, pleural thickening, and pulmonary tissue lesions. Breathing difficulties may result from prolonged non-healing of surgical wounds, while pleural thickening could be caused by fibrosis due to tissue proliferation following thoracoscopic surgery. Pulmonary tissue lesions may arise from pulmonary dysfunction caused by pneumothorax, which can subsequently trigger inflammation and tissue damage. In addition, pneumothorax may also lead to sequelae such as pleural adhesions, which in severe cases might require secondary surgical intervention.
