Gout patients are generally advised not to consume mung beans, as mung beans have a relatively high purine content and fall into the category of moderate-purine foods, which may potentially have adverse effects on individuals with gout. Gout is a condition caused by excessively high levels of uric acid in the body, and purines are precursor substances of uric acid. Excessive intake of purines can increase uric acid production. During an acute gout attack, the patient's uric acid levels are already at a peak; consuming mung beans at this time may further exacerbate fluctuations in uric acid levels, thereby triggering or worsening gout symptoms such as joint swelling, pain, and heat. Therefore, to manage their condition, gout patients should avoid or limit mung bean consumption, especially during acute attacks. Additionally, patients should drink plenty of water to promote uric acid excretion and, under a doctor's guidance, develop a suitable dietary plan.
