How is pelvic effusion caused?
Recently, I went to the hospital for a checkup and was told that I have fluid accumulation in my pelvis, but I don't know what caused it. I feel that my daily life has been quite normal. Could you please explain what causes pelvic fluid accumulation?

Pelvic effusion, medically referred to as pelvic effusion syndrome, refers to abnormal accumulation of fluid in the female pelvis. This condition may be caused by various factors, commonly including:
1. Hormonal fluctuations: During specific physiological periods in women, changes in hormone levels may lead to follicular rupture and pelvic congestion, resulting in a small amount of fluid accumulation in the pelvic cavity, forming pelvic effusion. This type of effusion is usually minimal and can be spontaneously absorbed without special treatment.
2. Infection: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is one of the most common causes, typically resulting from sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea or chlamydia.
3. Endometriosis: When endometrial tissue grows outside the uterus, it may cause bleeding and inflammation, leading to pelvic effusion.
4. Tumors: Malignant tumors such as ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer, as well as benign tumors like uterine fibroids, can cause pelvic effusion. Effusion caused by malignant tumors is usually more significant and may be accompanied by other symptoms such as weight loss and fatigue.
If you have any concerns, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
