What causes a dull ache in the left testicle?
I have had a dull ache in my left testicle since last night, and there are no other symptoms. What could be causing this?
The causes of mild pain in the left testicle include the following:
1. Inflammation: Such as epididymitis or orchitis, these inflammations are usually caused by bacterial or viral infections and may be accompanied by symptoms such as pain, swelling, and fever.
2. Varicocele: This is one of the most common causes, especially in adolescents and young men. It most frequently occurs on the left side due to the anatomical structure of the left spermatic vein, which makes blood reflux more prone to obstruction. Patients may experience a dull ache or a pulling sensation.
3. Testicular torsion: Vigorous exercise or scrotal trauma may trigger testicular torsion, causing compression of blood vessels, cutting off the blood supply to the testicle, and resulting in severe pain.
4. Prostatitis: Although it mainly presents with perineal discomfort and urinary tract symptoms, it can sometimes cause testicular pain.
5. Trauma: Direct impact or injury can also lead to testicular pain.
6. Hydrocele: When there is a significant accumulation of fluid, it may cause pain in the affected testicle.
7. Hernia: Inguinal hernia can cause pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen or testicular area.
