What should I do if my lower back suddenly becomes very painful after a sudden movement?
A few days ago, I accidentally sprained my waist while moving things during the move. How should I relieve it?
Sudden back pain from a twist, medically known as acute lumbar sprain. The following measures are recommended:
1. Rest and immobilization: Immediately stop all activities to prevent further injury. Bed rest helps reduce pressure on the lower back and relieve pain.
2. Cold and heat application: During the initial stage of the sprain (within 48 hours), apply cold packs to reduce swelling and pain; after 48 hours, switch to heat application to promote blood circulation and aid recovery.
3. Pain relievers: If the pain is severe, consider taking over-the-counter pain medications, such as ibuprofen capsules or acetaminophen (paracetamol).
4. Gentle movement: After the pain subsides, try mild stretching exercises for the lower back to promote blood circulation and recovery. Avoid any movements that cause pain.
5. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments: Such as acupuncture, massage, and cupping therapy, which should be performed by qualified professionals.
6. Physical therapy: Includes heat application, electrical stimulation, massage, and specific rehabilitation exercises to accelerate the healing process.
If the pain persists or is accompanied by numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness, seek immediate medical attention at a hospital.
