What are the symptoms of urethritis?
I have been feeling a burning sensation at the urethral opening when using the restroom these past two days. I also experience frequent urination and a stabbing pain during urination. I suspect it might be urethritis. Could you please tell me what symptoms are typically associated with urethritis if that is indeed the case?

Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethral mucosa. Common symptoms include:
1. Frequent urination: Patients feel the need to urinate frequently, although the volume of urine passed each time may be small.
2. Urgency: A sudden, strong urge to urinate, which is difficult to control.
3. Painful urination: A distinct pain in the urethra while urinating, caused by inflammation-induced damage to the urethral mucosa, with urine irritating the affected area.
4. Blood in the urine: The urine may appear pink or red, and blood may sometimes be visible to the naked eye.
5. Cloudy urine: The urine may become darker in color, cloudy, and may even have an odor.
6. Lower abdominal discomfort: Pain or discomfort may be felt in the lower abdomen or the perineal area.
7. Gender-specific symptoms: Male patients may experience urethral discharge, while female patients may have increased vaginal discharge.
8. Systemic symptoms: In severe cases, urethritis may also cause systemic symptoms such as fever, chills, and back pain, indicating that the inflammation has spread systemically.
If you experience the above symptoms, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
