Symptoms of a pulled back muscle
I accidentally strained my lower back, and now I'm experiencing severe pain in my waist area. I'm unable to make large movements, and even slight movement causes intense pain. I would like to know what other symptoms might appear in the following days?
Lumbosacral sprain, medically known as acute lumbar sprain, is an acute injury affecting the lumbar muscles, fascia, or ligaments. Its symptoms mainly include the following aspects:
1. Pain: This is the most direct and common symptom. The pain typically occurs suddenly and is usually located in the center of the lower back or on one side. The nature of the pain can be dull, sharp, or tearing in quality. In severe cases, patients may be unable to stand or move due to intense pain.
2. Limited mobility: Due to pain, patients may experience a significant reduction in the range of motion of the lower back. Movements such as bending forward, twisting, or extending the back can exacerbate the pain, affecting daily activities and work performance.
3. Muscle tension: The lumbar muscles become tense after a sprain. CT or X-ray examinations may reveal a physiological lumbar lordosis. Patients may support their lower back with both hands when standing or walking.
4. Localized swelling and bruising: In severe sprains, localized swelling may occur, sometimes accompanied by subcutaneous bleeding leading to bruising.
If symptoms persist or are accompanied by severe complications, immediate medical attention at a hospital is recommended.
