During menstruation, it is generally advised to avoid raw or cold foods, spicy foods, high-sodium foods, and foods containing caffeine.

During the menstrual period, a woman's body undergoes a series of physiological changes, including shedding of the uterine lining and bleeding. To maintain health and avoid worsening discomfort, certain foods should be limited or avoided. According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, cold foods may affect blood circulation, hinder the smooth discharge of menstrual blood, and increase the risk of dysmenorrhea. Therefore, chilled beverages, ice cream, and cold raw fruits should be consumed in reduced amounts.

Spicy foods such as chili peppers, raw garlic, and mustard can not only stimulate irregular uterine contractions but also lead to excessive shedding of the endometrium, causing heavy menstrual bleeding. High-salt foods may lead to fluid retention, worsening the feeling of bloating during menstruation. It is recommended to choose fresh ingredients and reduce salt intake. Caffeine-containing foods such as coffee and chocolate may stimulate the nervous and cardiovascular systems, possibly causing symptoms such as breast tenderness and mood swings.

In addition, alcohol may worsen emotional fluctuations during menstruation and interfere with normal sleep patterns, which is not conducive to physical recovery, and should therefore also be avoided.
