Will a woman have her period immediately after becoming pregnant?

Disease description:

I used a pregnancy test strip and got a positive result, but my period seems to have started again, although the flow is light. I'm not sure if I'm truly pregnant or if there's some kind of problem. I'd like to know whether it's actually possible to have a period very early in pregnancy.

Menstruation typically does not occur once a woman becomes pregnant. Some women may experience vaginal bleeding, but this is not a menstrual period.

Once a woman becomes pregnant, meaning the embryo has successfully implanted into the uterine lining, the normal menstrual cycle stops, as the body begins preparing to sustain the pregnancy. After conception, a woman's hormone levels change significantly, particularly with increased levels of progesterone and estrogen. These hormonal changes suppress the ovaries' normal ovulatory cycle, so without ovulation, there is no menstruation.

Some women may experience early pregnancy bleeding. This bleeding usually occurs around the time a menstrual period would normally begin, but it tends to be lighter in flow, paler in color, and shorter in duration than a regular period. It can easily be mistaken for a normal menstrual period. This phenomenon is not true menstruation, but rather slight irritation of the uterine wall caused by implantation of the fertilized egg or hormonal fluctuations.

If vaginal bleeding occurs during pregnancy, especially if accompanied by abdominal pain, it could be a sign of potential complications such as threatened miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. It is recommended to seek immediate medical attention for timely diagnosis and treatment.
