How to use Indomethacin suppositories
Recently, I went to the hospital and was prescribed Indomethacin suppositories. May I ask, how should Indomethacin suppositories be used?
Indomethacin suppository is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug primarily used to relieve mild to moderate pain and inflammation caused by various conditions. The instructions for use are as follows:
1. Cleanliness: Ensure the bladder and bowels are emptied before use, and wash the inside and outside of the anus to reduce the risk of infection.
2. Remove packaging: Peel off the aluminum foil or polyethylene film covering the suppository and prepare for use.
3. Lubrication: Apply a small amount of water or lubricant onto the suppository to facilitate insertion.
4. Insert the suppository: Lie down or on your side with knees bent. Insert the tapered end of the suppository gently into the rectum to a depth of approximately 2 centimeters. Ensure the suppository is fully inserted to prevent it from slipping out.
5. Maintain position: After insertion, remain lying on your side for approximately 15–20 minutes to enhance drug absorption.
6. Precautions: Avoid urination or defecation for 1–2 hours after administration to maintain drug effectiveness. The adult dosage is 50 mg per application. If symptoms persist, another dose may be taken every 4–6 hours, but the total dose should not exceed 200 mg within 24 hours.
