Can I undergo microneedling during my menstrual period?
I am 23 years old and recently wanted to try microneedling, but my period started a few days ago. I would like to ask whether it's advisable to undergo microneedling during menstruation.

Generally, microneedling is not recommended during menstruation. Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a small roller embedded with fine needles to puncture the skin and deliver nutrients into the dermis, creating microscopic injuries on the skin surface. During menstruation, a woman's physical resistance is relatively weakened, and blood clotting function may decrease, which could increase the risk of infection after microneedling and affect the recovery outcome.
During the menstrual period, a woman's body is in a special physiological state, with significant hormonal fluctuations that may render the skin more sensitive, prone to reactions such as redness and pain. Performing microneedling at this time may exacerbate these symptoms, prolong recovery time, or even lead to infection. During menstruation, the endometrium sheds, and both the immune system and blood clotting functions are compromised, increasing the risk of infection in the skin micro-wounds. Microneedling creates tiny wounds on the skin; performing the procedure at this time may hinder wound healing and increase the likelihood of infection.
To ensure both health and aesthetic outcomes, women are advised to avoid microneedling and similar cosmetic procedures during menstruation. If such treatments are necessary, it is advisable to wait approximately three days after the menstrual period ends and to choose a reputable medical facility with experienced practitioners. Additionally, post-treatment care should strictly follow the physician's recommendations to ensure proper healing and recovery.
