Generally speaking, postpartum women can consume crab in moderation during the postpartum recovery period (commonly known as "sitting month"), but with caution.

Crab is a high-protein, low-fat food rich in high-quality proteins, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, and other essential minerals, as well as vitamins A, E, and the B-complex. These nutrients are highly beneficial for a postpartum woman's recovery, especially as moderate intake of high-protein foods can improve the quality of breast milk and meet the growth needs of the infant.

Some women may be allergic to crab, and consumption could lead to allergic reactions such as skin itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing. Therefore, postpartum women should be aware of their allergy history and proceed cautiously when consuming crab. Crab is considered to have a cold nature in traditional Chinese medicine, and since postpartum women often have weakened physical conditions and incomplete recovery of gastrointestinal function, excessive consumption of crab may cause indigestion, abdominal pain, or diarrhea. It is therefore recommended that postpartum women consume crab in moderation and pair it with some warming ingredients, such as ginger or Chinese rice wine, to neutralize its cold properties.

After consuming crab, postpartum women should closely monitor both their own and their baby's physical reactions. Additionally, during the postpartum period, a woman's diet should primarily consist of light, nutritious, and easily digestible foods, with diverse nutrient intake to promote overall recovery. If any concerns or discomfort arise, prompt consultation with a qualified healthcare provider is advised.
