During my pregnancy, I went to the hospital for a follow-up examination, and the doctor recommended an NT scan. What does “NT” mean in prenatal screening for pregnant women?

Dr. Zhang Jianhai
NT (nuchal translucency) screening during pregnancy is an ultrasound examination that measures the thickness of the fluid-filled space at the back of the fetal neck. This measurement helps assess the risk of chromosomal abnormalities. If the NT result falls within the normal range, there is generally no cause for excessive concern. However, if the NT measurement is increased (i.e., “thickened”), further diagnostic testing—such as amniocentesis—may be recommended. In daily life, it is important to maintain a positive and calm mindset and avoid undue anxiety.
