Disease description:

I’m just about to have my blood drawn for a lipid profile test. The test report shows an upward arrow next to one of the lipid values, but my doctor said it’s not a concern. Could you please tell me what the normal serum lipid levels are?

Dr. Liu Aifen
Hello, Lipid profile testing primarily includes measurements of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Reference ranges vary for each parameter; elevated levels indicate dyslipidemia. If the elevation is mild, specific pharmacological treatment is generally not required. We recommend consulting an internist at a hospital to review your lipid test results; if necessary, the physician may prescribe lipid-lowering medication. Additionally, please maintain a light, low-fat diet—avoid greasy or fatty meats—and increase your intake of vegetables and fruits. Regular physical activity and periodic follow-up testing are also advised. I hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
