In children, a slightly elevated rubella virus IgG antibody level typically has no adverse effect on the body. It indicates a prior infection with the rubella virus. Rubella infection commonly causes fever and may lead to lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) as well as skin lesions characterized by redness and swelling. Antiviral medications may be used during active infection; however, once symptoms improve, further drug therapy is generally unnecessary.
