Introduction
The majority of women experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55. Since the span of menopausal age is as long as 10 years, there is no single “optimal” age for menopause. A woman’s age at menopause is influenced by familial factors as well as her age at menarche. Throughout her lifetime, a woman typically ovulates approximately 400 times; therefore, an earlier age at menarche is generally associated with an earlier age at menopause.

Human life expectancy today is vastly greater than in ancient times; however, the age of menopause in women has remained largely unchanged. Currently, the average age of menopause among women in China is approximately 49.5 years.

At what age do women typically experience menopause?

The majority of women experience menopause between ages 45 and 55—a span of approximately 10 years. There is no single “optimal” age for menopause.

A woman’s age at menopause is influenced by familial factors as well as her age at menarche. Throughout her lifetime, a woman typically ovulates about 400 eggs. Thus, an earlier age at menarche generally correlates with an earlier onset of menopause. Similarly, if a woman’s mother experienced early menopause, her daughter is also more likely to experience menopause at a relatively younger age.

Most women reach menopause around age 50; however, individual variation exists, and the timing differs from person to person. Menopause signals a decline in ovarian function—specifically, the ovaries cease releasing mature ova. Therefore, if an intrauterine device (IUD) is in place, it should be removed within one year after menopause, as pregnancy is no longer possible. Additionally, within one year following menopause, declining estrogen levels commonly cause symptoms such as hot flashes, palpitations, irritability, and vaginal dryness.

Women are advised to maintain regular daily routines, avoid staying up late, and consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Medications should never be self-prescribed; instead, any treatment should be undertaken only under the guidance of a physician. Such practices help preserve ovarian function and may delay the onset of menopause.

We hope the above information is helpful. Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
