Hemorrhoids are a common and benign condition. So, does hemorrhoids affect a woman’s sex life?
Does hemorrhoids affect a woman’s sex life?
Hemorrhoids do not interfere with normal sexual activity. The primary symptoms of hemorrhoids include anal pain during defecation and intermittent rectal bleeding after bowel movements; if prolapsed hemorrhoids become incarcerated, the pain intensifies. Several factors can trigger hemorrhoid flare-ups, including prolonged squatting on the toilet, chronic constipation or hard stools, increased intra-abdominal pressure during pregnancy, excessive consumption of spicy foods, a family history of hemorrhoids, and prolonged sitting or standing. Avoiding these triggers is advisable in daily life. Initial treatment for hemorrhoid flare-ups typically involves medications—topical ointments or suppositories, combined with warm-water sitz baths.

Common causes of hemorrhoids include the following: 1. Prolonged sitting, standing, or squatting—these postures impede venous return from the rectum, predisposing to hemorrhoid formation; 2. Chronic constipation and hard stools—these conditions mutually reinforce each other, leading to excessive straining during defecation and thereby increasing the risk of hemorrhoids; 3. Obesity—this elevates intra-abdominal pressure and is often associated with constipation and poor dietary habits, resulting in increased pressure on rectal veins and subsequent hemorrhoid development; 4. Low-fiber diets—these lead to hard, difficult-to-pass stools and, over time, chronic constipation, raising the likelihood of hemorrhoids. In addition to the above, other contributing factors include pregnancy, prolonged defecation time, frequent late-night activity (sleep deprivation), and irregular eating patterns.
