Can people with high uric acid levels eat broccoli and cauliflower?
Disease description:
My uric acid level is elevated, and I frequently experience joint pain—I’ve even stopped eating animal offal. May I ask: Can I eat broccoli and cauliflower if I have high uric acid?
Elevated uric acid levels commonly cause joint pain and gout. Patients should avoid organ meats and other high-purine foods. Broccoli and cauliflower, however, are low-purine vegetables and may be safely consumed; they do not affect uric acid levels or exacerbate gout. Individuals with hyperuricemia should undergo regular monitoring and follow-up testing, maintain adequate hydration by drinking plenty of water, and may consider short-term, appropriate oral colchicine therapy as an adjunctive treatment.
