Why does the lower abdomen feel cold during menstruation?
Disease description:
These past two days, during my period, I've felt a cold sensation in my abdomen, as if an ice pack were placed on my lower belly. Why does the lower abdomen feel cold during menstruation?
A cold sensation in the lower abdomen during menstruation is generally caused by uterine coldness (gong han). This may be due to a constitutionally weak body, or it could result from poor dietary habits, such as frequently consuming cold foods or drinking chilled beverages. It might also be related to multiple abortions or dilation and curettage procedures that cause endometrial damage. Additionally, wearing clothes that are too thin may also contribute. Women with uterine coldness commonly experience symptoms such as a cold lower abdomen, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), and cold hands and feet, which should be addressed promptly through appropriate adjustments.
