Hello, The black color of hair is primarily determined by melanin produced by melanocytes in the hair follicles. With advancing age, the tyrosinase activity of melanocytes in the hair follicles gradually declines, leading to a progressive reduction in pigment within the hair shaft—resulting in whitening of pubic hair. This age-related change is irreversible. In addition to normal physiological aging, pubic hair whitening may also indicate endocrine dysfunction or represent an early sign of vulvar vitiligo (leukoderma). Typically, patients with vulvar vitiligo first notice whitening of the pubic hair before other symptoms appear. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider for proper evaluation and diagnosis to avoid delays in treatment. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness!
