Dr. Li Mingchuan
Serum uric acid is a key metabolic substance in the human body. The normal range for serum uric acid is generally 160–420 μmol/L; levels below 160 μmol/L are considered low. Hypouricemia (low serum uric acid) may be caused by amino acid deficiency, anemia, reduced protein intake, decreased secretion of digestive fluids, chronic liver disease affecting liver function, or intestinal flora imbalance. Low serum uric acid can lead to symptoms or signs such as muscle pain, joint pain, recurrent diarrhea, weight loss, mental fatigue, and changes in serum protein electrophoresis patterns. It may also exacerbate liver dysfunction in patients with liver disease and have a greater impact on those with liver fibrosis. Therefore, when low serum uric acid levels are detected, individuals should seek medical attention promptly to identify the underlying cause, receive timely and effective treatment, improve nutritional status, moderately increase protein intake, and maintain a balanced diet.
