Can people with high uric acid levels eat passion fruit?
Disease description:
I usually quite enjoy eating passion fruit; I think it tastes great. However, I have high uric acid levels. Is it okay for someone with high uric acid to eat passion fruit?
Patients with high uric acid levels can consume passion fruit in moderation. The purine content in passion fruit pulp is relatively low, approximately between 12.5 to 25 milligrams per 100 grams, which categorizes it as a low-purine food. Therefore, consuming passion fruit in moderation generally does not cause a significant increase in uric acid levels or trigger gout attacks. Additionally, passion fruit is rich in nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin A, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and dietary fiber, which help enhance immunity, promote digestion and excretion, and benefit overall health. Patients with high uric acid levels should still be mindful of controlling total purine intake and avoid excessive consumption of passion fruit or other high-purine foods to prevent adverse effects on their condition. At the same time, maintaining a low-purine diet, drinking plenty of water, and engaging in moderate physical activity are also important measures for managing uric acid levels.
