Can people with high uric acid levels drink lemon water?
Disease description:
I usually enjoy drinking lemon water, but I recently found out that I have high uric acid levels. I would like to know, is it okay for someone with high uric acid to drink lemon water?
Patients with high uric acid levels can drink lemon water, but should do so in moderation. Lemon water is considered a low-purine beverage and is suitable for individuals with elevated uric acid levels. Although lemons themselves are acidic, once ingested and metabolized in the body, they produce alkaline substances that can help increase the pH level of the blood, thereby enhancing the solubility of uric acid in the bloodstream and promoting its excretion. Additionally, lemon water is rich in vitamin C, which can help boost immunity and improve metabolic function, further aiding in the elimination of uric acid. However, excessive consumption of lemon water may overstimulate the kidneys due to high intake of citric acid, increasing the excretion of uric acid and urea, which may potentially harm kidney function. Therefore, it is recommended that patients with high uric acid levels consume no more than 100 milliliters of lemon water per day, divided into multiple servings.
