What is the fleshy tissue that comes out during menstruation?
Disease description:
This menstrual period has involved unusually heavy bleeding, and today I noticed a fleshy, tissue-like substance in the menstrual blood. I would like to know: what is this “lump of meat” that has passed during my period?
Hello,
Menstrual blood discharged during a woman’s period results from the shedding of the uterine lining (endometrium). This blood contains a significant amount of metabolic waste and toxins accumulated within the uterus; incomplete expulsion may harm the uterus. The passage of a clump-like substance along with menstrual flow is highly likely to be shed endometrial tissue, as menstruation itself involves endometrial shedding accompanied by bleeding. However, the presence of such clumps cannot entirely rule out pregnancy; therefore, a pregnancy test using a home pregnancy test strip is recommended for confirmation.
